Electron beam generator
thermomechanical testing / material characterization

The STAEL electron beam generator is used to generate thermomechanical effects on various materials and sub-systems. STAEL is implemented with a Doppler velocity interferometer VISAR (Velocity Interferometer System for Any Reflector).

This test facility is used to characterize the shock response of different types of materials.

- Fluence : 40 à 600 J/cm2

- Pulse width : 60 ns at half way

- Average energy : 200 keV or 600 keV

- Firings per day : 4

Instrumentation

- Constraint measurement through quartz gauge or VISAR (rear face velocity)

- Distortion measurement through extensometry gauge

- Impulse measurement through :

        - a « ballistic » platform

- laser beams occultation
