 Total Ionizing Dose (TID)

SAND radiation source

The so-called SAND facility, based on a Cobalt 60 radioactive source, is used to submit electronic components and equipment to a y photons dose. The electronic component or piece of equipment can be functionally operated during the irradiation test through a dedicated interface.

Commissioning : December 1992 (1 200 Ci, 40 TBq)

Reloading : December 1998 (2 000 Ci, 74 TBq)

The source utilization authorization has been extended until July 2014 by the French Nuclear Safety Agency ASN (Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire).

Photons energy : 1.17 MeV and 1.33 MeV

Dose rate : 0.02 to 20 rad(Si)/s (72 to 7.2 104 rad(Si)/h)

Lower dose rates are possible by using lead shieldings

Irradiations can be operated 24h/24 and 7days/7

Pb/Al casing available (compatible with ESA requirements)

 Real time Silicium dosimetry
